The millionaire Oligarchy seems to want a Brazil of illiterates, says scientist

Looking at the paths already taken by Professor Vanderlan Bolzani, 68, it is possible to understand that she took literally the guidance given by her father from childhood. “My father always said, ‘My children are not sons of colonels, so they have to be literate.’ He was almost semi-literate, but of a brilliant intelligence. And this holds true for our society today”, she says.

Researcher at the Unesp Institute of Chemistry (Universidade Estadual Paulista) and vice-president of SBPC (Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science), she spoke to the UOL report about the fall in public investments in science and technology, the challenges for the next elected president and what led her, as a child, to “run away” from the dolls to venture into other games.
